Perak : Rafflesia Trekking Tour

Package DescriptionThe Rafflesia Species named after M. Cantley, curator of the Singapore Botanic Gardens (1880-1886). The trekking will only take around 1 hour 30 minutes. But to go there, it will take another 1hour 30minutes by lorry. The walking distance are only a few kilometer (maximum 5km).

The trek to the Rafflesia is near a little village about 12km from Gopeng, near Ipoh, Perak. To trek through the jungle to where the Rafflesia thrives, you need to engage the services of a Semai Orang Asli guide. The trek was hilly, some parts you really have to climb. Halfway up the hill, you can already see a Rafflesia. There were a few rotting carcasses here and there.

Rafflesia is parasitic and gets their nutrients from the lianas they parasitically grow on. Indeed they are a fascinating species and it's unfortunate that their main claim to fame is by being the biggest flower in the world. Rafflesia is stemless, leafless, barkless, and rootless. It is reputed to have the most awful stench but this is quite exaggerated.

In the heart of the Rafflesia, there’s a feelers surrounded by something that looks like soft flesh and pale, protected by big white dotted pustules. There are about 20 species of Rafflesia known in the World and 60 types of butterflies in Kampung Ulu Geroh. The Rafflesia Cantleyi, whose flowers measure up to 55cm with perigone lobes up to 14cm long and 18cm wide, grows high up in the thick forests of Ulu Geroh.

The Orang Asli call them Bunga Pakma ( Pakma derived from the Sanskrit word of lotus ) For generations Rafflesia have been used in traditional medicine especially for post – natal remedies. A typical blooming period of the Rafflesia is within 4 to 5 days. There are hundreds of Rajah Brooke butterflies to see flitting about in a muddy area in the jungle of Ulu Geroh.

The trails are steep, wet, and slippery and part of the way may involve walking through a small stream. We recommended old sneakers with good treads or hiking shoes and old clothes. There will be lots of leeches so if you have leech socks, bring it along with you or soccer socks

ITINENARY for Rafflesia Trekking Tour

0930 hrs	Pick up from lodge area. Depart for Ulu Geroh (Starting Point) by lorry. Journey takes around 40 minutes.
1010 hrs	Arrive starting point. Briefing by guide. Start trekking to Ulu Geroh. Journey will take around 3 hours which one will pass by the area of Orang Asli settlement and some part of the treks is steep so a good hiking shoes and long socks is required to avoid leech bite. Rajah Brooke Butterfly area will be visited after the visit to the Rafflessia Center.
1310 hrs	End of Rafflesia trekking. Depart to lodge area for lunch.
1415 hrs	Freshen up.

Liability:
Clients should note that an adventure trip involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard our clients, we cannot be held responsible for personal injury or loss due to the action of clients which are beyond our control. A signed release or Indemnity Form will be required from all participants from Ballzaction Sportsmart Sdn Bhd and our sports strategy partners.

Responsibility:
BallzAction and our partners reserve the right to make such alteration to departure and completion dates, reducing the extent of a trip, etc, that we deem necessary due to road, river or weather conditions or other conditions beyond our control including minimum safe running numbers, before and whilst on a trip.

Fitness, Health & Experience:
While good health and a positive mental attitude are essential.Ballzaction Sportsmart Sdn Bhd and our partners reserve the right to refuse to carry any client who is deemed to endanger the safe running of the trip. "Pregnant women will be refused participation".

Indemnity Form:
Each participants is require to sign an indemnity form when requested by the tour guide before any trip commences.

Insurance:
Clients are advised to be insured, trip are excludes the insurance coverage. However, we encourage clients/participants to be insured. The particular we required from participants to submit is full name as in identity card, IC or Passport number. Maximum age limit is 60 years old and in good healthy with medical proof. Insurance can be provided at an extra cost on request.

Payment Condition:

Deposit 50% of the total amount is required at the time of booking. In case of cancellation, 20% of the deposit will be forfeited. Balance payment to be made in 7 working days prior to departure of trip or every Thursday before 5pm as the cut off date for any booking.
Payment should be by cash or cross cheque to Ballzaction bank account.
No Refund will be entertained in case of NO SHOW or UN-USED Service without informing Ballzaction in advance with minimum 48 hours before the trip.
Postponement notice must be provided by BallzAction or our sport partner due to bad weather or high water in which high risks is unavoidable, all payment will be transferred to a later date agreed by both parties.
Postponement notice from participants must be provided by fax or in writing within 2 working days prior to departure for day trip and 14 working days for multiple days trip to qualifiy for an alternative date. Maximum to one time postpone notice allowed from customers/participants. Insurance payment is non-refundable or transferable. Full refund will be entertained to participant who agreed and bound to our terms and conditions.
Once payment made. Participants will received a Confirmation Letter from Ballzaction. Only booking with confirmation letter consider as VALID booking (Please insist of Confirmation letter once you made the payment).

Cancellation:

Guest must forward a written notice within the following period:

14 (Fourteen) days prior to arrival: Full Refund

7 (Seven) days prior to arrival: Charge 20% from total package amount

2 (Two) days: Non Refundable

Insurance payment is non-refundable.

No show or UN-USED Service, 100% cancellation fee will be imposed.

Guest may have option to change current reserved schedule to other convenience date.

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, making it impossible or inadvisable to raft, we ('Ballzaction Sportsmart') and our partners reserve the right to change to another cave or river or cancel the tour to our absolute discretion. In such eventuality, agreed by both parties. Full refund will be made against 'Ballzaction Sportsmart' to our clients who can't proceed to the next schedule for activities.
